Divert Waste.
Educate.
Regenerate.
We provide food waste composting services and run Urban Compost Hubs to keep food out of landfill.

DIVERT
We provide an alternative to putting food scraps in the bin... We collect and compost them!
Because food doesn't just break down in landfill and go away, it mixes in with all the plastics and metals making a big ol’ toxic sandwich. This stuff leaches out into our groundwater and can poison animals and ourselves… and we haven't even mentioned the methane gas emissions flowing into the atmosphere as a result of food rotting away in landfill. In fact, if food 'waste' were a country it would be the third biggest greenhouse gas emitter on the planet.

EDUCATE
We run regular workshops to teach you how to compost your food scraps at home.
It’s easy to make compost at home and avoid sending food to landfill, and we’ll show you how. Come to one of our workshops at our Burleigh Hub and learn how to make your own in ground worm farm to setup at home. Pop your food scraps in and let the worms do the dirty work for you. You’ll be helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with food going to landfill and be making your own fertliser for your plants. Trust us they will love you for it!

REGENERATE
We've opened local community composting hubs to keep our food waste resources local.
We’re avoiding transport emissions associated with trucking our waste out of the city and instead we’re making local compost to regenerate our soils. We use our finished compost on our food gardens at our hubs so that we can grow fresh food for our community share stand. Did you know that one tonne of compost can sequester approximately 1/2 tonne of C02e (carbon dioxide equivalent emissions) from the atmosphere when it is applied to the land?
Together we’ve saved
over 55 tonnes of food
from going into landfill!
We’re pretty chuffed with that, but we’re only getting started.

Where it all started…
Seed the Ground is the brainchild of Nat and Jess, two Miami mum's on a mission to make a difference.
We are a not-for-profit organisation registered with the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission. You'll see us riding the streets of Miami, picking up buckets of spent coffee grinds or food scraps from our local restaurants and cafes. We divert these organics from landfill and into our composting systems, not only to avoid harmful methane gas emissions that result from food rotting in landfill, but to produce a valuable local resource that can be used to regenerate our soils.
We're here to shake up the energy in the community and get composting in the forefront of everyone's minds. But it doesn't stop there. Our goal is to use the finished compost to regenerate soils and to work with shopfronts, cafes and restaurants to plant greenspaces that create amazing atmosphere and help our environment.
We dream of a community that understands the importance of managing waste appropriately and who are actively involved in the circular economy of the compost hub.
